Edutivities

Small activities that anyone can do!!!!!

  • Get face cards and for each card drawn do an exercise that many times.  Helps them practise reading numbers and counting.

  • To teach a child your phone number, put it to music.  My sister had been trying to teach her little boy for over a month.  When I suggested she put it to music he had it down in less than a day!

  • Play hide and seek, have child practice counting to 10 then 20.

  • Read, Read, Read!!!

  • Get Memory cards and play memory.  They can be of pictures or the alphabet matching capital and lower case letters.

  • Use your computer.  Starfall.com is one of my favorite free websites that has fun activities and graphics!  IXL.com has great math practice for preschool through highschool.

  • Make a lower case and capital set of the alphabet (flash cards, spoons, clear rocks with letters glued behind whatever) have your child practice matching lower case and capitals.  (Thanks Rita Peck)

  • Go to your local libraries story hour.  You can get some books as well as the kiddos!

  • Play store with your kids.  Take turns being clerk and shopper.  Count items and add different items together.  (Thanks Jaris Lewis)

  • Say the colors of items you pick up throughout the day ie. shoes, cloths, dishes etc.  (Thanks Rachelle Bartschi)  My personal favorite is to sit outside with the kids saying the color of cars as they drive by!

  • While driving teach your child red, yellow and green with stoplights.  Let them know red is stop, yellow slow down, and green says go!!!!  Then they can help you watch the stoplights.

  • As you are walking or driving look at street signs and ask your child what letters or numbers they recognize.  Count to the number or talk about the sound the letter makes.

  • Look for shapes all around you.  As you walk around outside, in the house and in books you read.  Shapes are everywhere.  Teach your child square, circle, triangle, and rectangle to start and go from there!
